Opportunity Description:
Volunteers will serve as an ambassador of the parks water resources by educating the public about the risks and dangers associated with recreating in and around the Delaware River as well as waterfall areas, ponds and lakes. Volunteers will either conduct roves of the Delaware River via kayak or canoe or will patrol other swimming areas via foot to provide information/education as well as park information and safety materials to visitors. Roves will most likely occur on weekends and holidays throughout the summer months. Good comunication skills and the ability to effectively present water safety information to a variety of audiences. If conducting river roves, experience with operating a canoe, kayak or other waterborne vessel, including associated operator safety principals and the ability to swim. If conducting waterfall roves, it is required that volunteers will be able to hike several miles over uneven terrain in high temperatures. While not required, the ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable.
